In this task, the goal is to adapt vocabulary to describe a scene that may seem surprising or strange to you. Fully use descriptive language for task completion. The task consists of two parts: to describe an image and to invite a friend to an activity. It’s essential to address the listener directly.

Focus on

  1. Using Descriptive vocabulary
  2. Developing your response
  3. Describing unfamiliar elements in the scene

Criteria

  1. Did you address the listener directly?

Common Errors

  1. Misusing Prepositions
  2. Going Off Topic
  3. Using Imprecise Language
    1. For example, saying, “There’s this colourful thing stuck in a tree. is hard to understand what you are describing. “There’s a red, purple, and blue rectangular object stuck in a tree - I think it’s a kite” is much easier to understand because the language is more precise.

Struct your response

  1. Greet your friend + explain the situation
  2. Describe something + explain why it would be interesting for the listener.
  3. Inquire about their interest (if applicable) + Provide Options
  4. Closing the message (end the message by asking for a response and saying goodbye)

Using Descriptive Vocabulary

To effectively convey important details in the image, it is important to be descriptive and precise. In the case of basic vocabulary, to express higher-level meaning, say a “large sailing boat” if you don’t know the word “yacht”. However, the right way to say is “a luxury sailing yacht with a prominent open upper desk featuring dining tables and lounge chairs.”.
